Children In Need Celebrates 27 Years of Serving Washington County’s Children
HAGERSTOWN, MD (November 2025) — Children In Need, Inc. proudly marks 27 years of service to Washington County, continuing its mission to ensure every child has access to the essentials they need to learn, grow, and succeed.
Since opening its doors in 1998, Children In Need has distributed more than one million free items — including clothing, coats, shoes, school supplies, and hygiene products — to thousands of local children and families living in poverty. Through the organization’s Client Services and Extended Services programs, children from birth through high school receive vital resources that support both their physical and emotional well-being.
“Every child deserves to walk into school feeling confident, clean, and cared for,” said Brittany Wedd, Executive Director of Children In Need, Inc. “For 27 years, we’ve worked to break down barriers for families in crisis — ensuring that basic needs never stand in the way of a child’s education or self-esteem. The need in our community continues to grow, and we remain committed to meeting it with compassion, dignity, and hope.”
Since the start of its fiscal year in July, Children In Need has experienced a 20% increase in children served through its Client Services program compared to the same time last year. Meanwhile, emergency requests from Washington County Public Schools and partner agencies have surged by 114%, reflecting a county-wide increase in families facing hardship.
The organization’s impact extends far beyond clothing and supplies. Children In Need partners with schools, health providers, and social service agencies to identify and respond to the unique challenges families face — including homelessness, trauma, and economic instability. With community support, the organization continues to be a critical safety net for Washington County’s most vulnerable children.
As Children In Need celebrates this milestone year, the organization invites the community to continue standing beside them.
