About the Artist:
Catherine A. McCormick, Ph.D. is an award-winning photographer, clay artist and educator. She earned her first photography award in 2001 for her piece Go Ask Alice published in Penn State Harrisburg’s student literary and art magazine. After earning an M.A. in 2004, she began a career as a college educator teaching photography and other Communications courses.
Following a trip to Central America in 2007, she curated a photography show Nicaraguan Contrasts which hung in the campus’ gallery lounge. One of the images included in that show earned her an award in the Penn State University International Photo Contest in 2008.
She continued her education and earned a doctorate in American Studies in 2020. McCormick retired from Penn State Harrisburg in 2021 and has been actively producing and showing her clay and photography work both in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Her photography has been shown locally at the Valley Arts Association and the Washington County Arts Council. She currently lives in Smithsburg, Md., and is the Vice President of the town council there.
