In this interactive Chamber Chapters session, Stephen Schutte leads a discussion of Becoming a Person of Influence, John Maxwell and Jim Dornan's classic on how everyday leaders earn trust and make a lasting difference in others' lives. 

Attendees will explore the ten traits of influential people, practice a listening exercise that's harder than it sounds, and build their own "personal board of directors," the mentors, truth-tellers, and connectors every professional needs. 

Stephen's take on the book: in order to influence, you must also accept influence. Come ready to participate. You'll leave with new ideas, new connections, and a clear picture of who is shaping your career and whose career you're shaping. No need to have read the book to join in.

About Stephen: 

Stephen Schutte is the Marketing Manager at Innovative Incorporated, where he leads marketing strategy, brand development, community engagement, and growth initiatives for the Hagerstown-based technology company. He brings more than 15 years of experience in marketing, business development, operations, and organizational leadership, including senior leadership roles with Point Broadband, Shentel/Glo Fiber, and Sprint. A longtime advocate for Washington County, Stephen has served in leadership roles with the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, Washington County Free Library, Western Maryland Regional Library, Children in Need, and other community organizations. His Chamber recognitions include the 2019 At Your Service Award, 2020 Small Business of the Year, 2022 Young Professional of the Year, and 2024 Business Person of the Year, and he has helped several other organizations earn Chamber awards through his work in marketing, positioning, and storytelling.

Stephen's approach to leadership centers on a simple idea at the heart of Becoming a Person of Influence: that lasting impact comes from how you invest in people, not the title you hold. He brings practical business experience and a straightforward style to building organizations that people want to work for, work with, and support.
